Like Cleopas and his companion on the road to Emmaus, Jesus walks with us. Even when we don’t recognize him, he continues the journey by our side. Even when we can’t make sense of what he is saying, his step is in sink with ours. Even when we can’t see the love of God shining through in our world, he continues along the way with us.
Like Cleopas and his companion, when we look back at our experience, we can more clearly see Jesus’ presence in our lives. We may join them in saying, “Weren’t our hearts burning within us!”
As you prepare for worship this week, I encourage you to look for Jesus in your life. When have you felt his presence in the moment? When have you only recognized Jesus’ presence when you look back at your journey? How can you prepare yourself now to see Jesus?
God is always here and never leaves us. Thanks be to God!
It is a joy to be one of your pastors.
