I've Been Meaning to Ask

This summer we’ll be using a sermon series called, “I’ve been meaning to ask…” as a way to help us re-connect and grow deeper in relationship as a congregation. The name of this series from A Sanctified Art “conveys intentionality, warmth, curiosity, and consideration. In essence, this question also implies the following statements: “I’ve been thinking about you and I’ve been wanting to check in… You’ve been on my mind… I haven’t known how to have this conversation, but I’m getting started with a question.” The ellipses symbolize the main objective of this series: to cultivate courageous conversations— and to keep having them, even if we need to pause.” (from the re-source creators.)
We’ll begin this Sunday, June 6 with “Where are you from?” In reflecting on this theme, Dr. Raj Nadella reminds us that “in order to build connection and trust, we need to listen to each other’s stories and experiences to learn who and what has shaped us. We also need to feel seen and known for who we are. In this first week, we hope to affirm the particularity of our identities while also acknowledging our common ground.”
Note, most of our worship services this summer will follow the Revised Common Lectionary (a set of scriptures following a 3 year cycle used by churches around the world). We’ll connect with this special series on four Sundays throughout the summer. We hope you’re as excited as we are about growing in our relationships with this important work:
June 6 – Where are you from? – Genesis 2:4b-15, John 1:35-51
July 11 – Where does it hurt? – 1 Samuel 1:1-18, Mark 5:21-43
August 1 – What do you need? – Job 2:11-13, 2 Timothy 4:9-18
August 29 – Where do we go from here? – Ruth 1:1-22, Acts 10
