FPC Greenville has a rich history in supporting missions. Being a "mission-minded" church has led us to numerous mission activities, many of which you will find listed below.
All ages, from our youngest children to our senior members, have many opportunities to participate in various ways in missions. In addition to the activities, FPC participates in special offerings sponsored by the Presbyterian Church-USA.
Prayer Shawls
Our faithful yarn artists create three different sizes of prayer shawls for our congregation and community. They are available in pocket square sizes up to full-sized shawls. We provide these to ECU Hospice, ECU Palliative Care, and our members, wrapping people in God’s love and in our prayers.
Prayers And Squares
Our quilters make beautiful quilts for fundraisers to support missions, as well as for babies baptized in the church or members who are in need of special care. They also make sleep mats for children in Africa, taggy blankets for Aces for Autism, and work on other special fabric projects for our community.
Foster Care Initiative
For the last three years, FPC has partnered with our local DSS to donate hygiene kits, suitcases, and stuffed animals to children in our local system. We have also hosted adoption matching events and partnered with Lambs' Place, an organization helping children who are aging out of the foster care system.
Crossroads Community Shelter Meals
Our church is dedicated to supporting those in need within our community, and one of the ways we do so is by providing and serving a nourishing dinner once a month at the local shelter.
Bucket Brigade
Each quarter, during the church service, our young children collect loose change from the congregation during "a time for children." The money collected supports the New Hope Presbytery Hunger offering and meals at the Community Crossroads Shelter.
FPC has also partnered with our local homeless shelter, Community Crossroads Shelter, for many years, with groups from our congregation providing a meal monthly to the residents.
Toys For Tots
For the last several years, First Presbyterian has served as the Pitt County sorting and distribution hub for Toys for Tots, partnering with Churches Outreach Network to bring joy to children throughout Pitt County.
Food Packing
We partner with Churches Outreach Network to pack food boxes for children in our school system during the Easter and Christmas breaks. When DSS identifies kids at risk for food insecurity, we step in to ensure they receive the nourishment they need during these critical times.
Backpack Buddies
Backpack Buddies helps children who are identified as food insecure on the weekends. The children receive a bag in their backpacks that contains meals, snacks, and drinks to eat over the weekends.
We support schools that have lost funding after Christmas Break, secured funding for both of the schools for the following years
There are always ongoing mission opportunities happening at FPC. We assist the Council on Aging by serving Meals on Wheels, our youth volunteer at our local food bank, and help our members with yard work when needed. We pack food boxes for children in our school system during the Easter and Christmas breaks, and pack disaster relief buckets when called upon.
We also assist with collections for backpack buddy programs at local schools and sponsor families at Christmas. If you want to be involved at FPC, there is a place for you at our table.
